Reading Response: Insurgent

Tris in Divergent is different than the Tris in Insurgent. In Divergent Tris throws herself into danger without thinking, but in insurgent Tris thinks before she throws herself. Tris is more mature and selfless in Insurgent. For instance, she goes to the Erudite compound to die just to save the lives of the Dauntless. She also has much more weight on her shoulders in Insurgent. She has to deal with how she shot Will and the death of her parents. Tris uses the weight on her shoulders as motivation to doing the right thing.

I finished Insurgent this week and it is now one of my favorite books. I liked the futuristic world and the faction system. I also liked the relationship between Tobias and Tris. I think that they made each other stronger and braver. I also liked how the Dauntless went against the oppression of the Erudite and took their compound over. I did not like the factionless and their leader, Evelyn. I did not like how they lived and how they wanted to take over. Finally, I liked the ending of the book. I felt that it was a very nice cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Insurgent Reading Response

This week I read Insurgent by Veronica Roth. I chose to read this book before we made our question. When I am choosing the next book for my outside reading, I will keep my question in mind, "How do the characters in the books make big decisions?" I am thinking to read The Ask and The Answer and then Allegiant. I am drawn to these books because I have read a very good book that is in their series.

I chose to read Insurgent because I really enjoyed Divergent. I think that Insurgent is better than Divergent because it shows you more of Tris's world. The book shows  how Tris is grieving over her parents' deaths. She becomes reckless and does not think before she acts. As a result, Tobias and Tris have relationship problems because Tobias does not like the reckless Tris. I also like how Insurgent shows you how the the Dauntless are very brave. The Dauntless elect new leaders, Tobias, Harrison, and Tori. The Dauntless also convict Eric and kill him for all the crimes he has committed. I also liked when the Dauntless take back their compound and shoot the cameras with paintballs.

Last Friday Night

Last friday my 10 year old brother invited 4 of his friends to spend the night. I was not very happy with this, but I didn't have a say in it so it didn't matter what I thought. As soon as we got home they went  upstairs to play and that is when things got crazy. It was like there were 5 blenders jumping up and down trying to bring down the ceiling. I went upstairs to tell them to be quiet and they were very rude to me. They yelled at me and started to throw bouncy balls and other silly toys at me. That was strike 1 for them. I went downstairs and my mom told me to not worry about it. I calmed down once I started to watch television. Then the 5 hooligans started to go up and down the stairs. They were holding nerf guns and shooting each other pretending that they were the cops. I tried to cope with the noise, but it became unbearable. Luckily for me my cousins called and asked me to go to the movies with them. I asked my mom and she said I could go. After 5 minutes my cousins picked me up and we went to go see Jobs. I was very happy that I was getting away from the noise, but felt bad for my parents because they had to endure the circus.

When I got home, I was surprised to find it quiet and no sounds. I asked my parents where the kids were and they told me that they were upstairs watching a movie. At that time I was thinking that I could have some peace and quiet and maybe go to sleep without all the ruckus. My joy only lasted for 15 minutes. The kids were even louder than when I left. They were shouting, screaming, and jumping. I went upstairs to see what was going on and once I got upstairs I see them in my room. They were jumping on my bed, playing with all my things, and going in my closet. I was furious, even more than in the afternoon because at night I turn into a monster. I get very cranky and when someone angers me it is just like when a bull sees someone red. I yelled, "GET OUT OF MY ROOM! You have no right to be in here! GET OUT!" Then they went and hid in my closet. I went after them and saw all of my clothes that were hung up, were on the floor. I was even angrier than I was before, so I grabbed 2 of the kids by the arm and dragged them out of my room. Then I yelled to the remainder of the kids, "GET OUT! Does anyone else want me to drag them out just like the other two!" Then the rest of the kids ran out and didn't go in for the rest of the night. During the rest of the night the kids stayed in my brother's room and slept after and hour. Then I went to sleep and to my dismay when I woke up I saw the kids in my face. When all the kids left, I asked my parents to never invite them again!

Free Post- Freshman Year and High School

I have noticed a big change from being the top dogs of middle school and being a freshman. There is a different schedule, more people, and a smaller locker. I look forward to my time in high school, but not to the workload. Everything has gone smoothly these past 7 days at school. I like all my classes and teachers and I hope it will stay that way. I think that my freshman year will be a very memorable one.

I think that high school in general prepares you for college and the real world. High school is a time to find who you really are. Whether it being finding new friends or an extracurricular activity that you really like. It also might help you find out what you want to study in college and what profession you are interested in. High school changes you. It might change who you hang out with or your likes and dislikes. Although high school has a scary workload I think that it will be ok if I manage my time well.

Divergent Reading Response

Over the summer I read Divergent by Veronica Roth. Divergent was full of action and I couldn't put it down. The main character Beatrice finds out that she is Divergent because the aptitude tests said that she belonged to 3 factions. One thing I liked was the setting, a dystopian version of Chicago where everyone is divided into 5 factions. I also liked how the author developed Beatrice or Tris's character. She changed her from a shy Abnegation girl to a courageous Dauntless. I really enjoyed learning about the Dauntless initiation during the course of the book. I especially liked the last stage of the Dauntless initiation, the fear landscapes. I pictured the fears that the characters had and enjoyed seeing them overcome it.

This book is very well written. It is full of action that makes you want to keep reading and not put the book down. At the beginning of the book Tris was shy and didn't know how to defend herself. Towards the end of the book we see Tris #1 in the rankings. She develops an enemy, Peter. He picks on her and makes fun of her old faction, Abnegation. Tris also develops a love relationship with Four. At the end of the book, the population of the Divergent was being mind-controlled to attack the Abnegation. Tris notices that she is not being controlled and that is the reason why she is Divergent. Tris also notices that Four is Divergent as well. To her dismay she sees who mind-controlled the Dauntless, Jeanine Matthews. I really liked this book and look forward to reading the sequel, Insurgent
